About the project.

The project seeks to link the two schools through the exchange of Travel Bugs®.

On the 23rd of January 2009, Robin, Anna, Chris, Isaac, Kiera, Meg, Seb and Ollie set out from Landscove School to Bovey Heath, where Robin had identified a good launch cache. After a bit of searching, Meg found the cache and, with a small ceremony, the King, Queen and Crown Prince of Landscove were placed in the box to begin their long journey to Kathmandu.

On the same day Babu left the first of the MSSchool Travel Bugs in the Travel Bug Hotel cache in Thamel, Kathmandu, and the other two followed shortly.

Each of the travelbugs launched by each school has a different goal: one wants to reach the other school as quickly as possible, one wants to visit at least 5 countries along the way, and one wants to pick up photos of sites of historical or other interest.

The project is a race between the schools that presents multiple opportunities for enhancing curriculum learning along the way.  The Travel Bugs will be tracked on world maps and each new cache can provide rich teaching material.  For example pupils might learn about the history or geography of the area, study the charting and statistics generated by the route, write a story about the adventures of the Travel Bugs, engage with the music and art associated with the location or try some regional cooking.
